Imperial War Museum, Duxford is an outstanding destination for GA aircraft. There is more to interest and excite pilots and aviation enthusiasts than at almost any other airfield in the world, from the £25 million ‘AirSpace’ project opened last year, the American Air Museum, through to the four WW2 original hangars housing a wide variety of historic aircraft, many in flying order.
Visitors are welcome at all times when the museum is open, but the airfield has introduced some special fly-in benefits: “Duxford Bonus Days.”
Arrive in a qualifying aircraft on a Bonus Day and benefit
from a special landing fee of £7 and discounted admission
to the museum facilities (£7). And children are free.
And, for the Safety Bonus Day on 11th April, the landing fee and Safety Program are free of charge.
Bonus Days planned for 2009 are:
April 11 Duxford Bonus Safety Day –arrive in any light aircraft
-free landing & Safety Program admission
-also may arrive by car
May 23 ‘Flyer Magazine’ Bonus Day -see Flyer magazine for details
June 20 Cessna Bonus Day -arrive in any Cessna aircraft
July 25 Piper Bonus Day -arrive in any Piper aircraft
August 8 Bulldog/Pup Bonus Day -arrive in a Bulldog or Pup
On 11th April, to kick-off the flying season, we will have an informal Safety Bonus Day with free landings and free admission to the museum:
Following the successful 2008 event, the Safety day will be a mixture of informal presentations and opportunities to chat to the professionals. The presentations will be repeated, so you can arrive and leave when it suits you best. In recognition of the importance of the Safety theme, there’s no charge for landing or the Safety Day Programme. Also on 11th April only, if the weather is poor, or if you can’t fly in, you can come in free by car – but you must pre-book.
