Royal Navy Sea Hawk (MOD) |
The FAA was in action again during the Suez campaign of 1956. FAA Armstrong Whitworth Sea Hawks, flying from the carriers HMS Albion, HMS Eagle and HMS Bulwark, carried out air strikes on Egyptian airfields. Originally designed by Hawkers, the Sea Hawk was a fighter-bomber in service with the Royal Navy from 1953 to 1960. It was the second jet in Royal Navy service and was very popular with pilots who praised its ease of control and manoeuverability.
*Please note that this aircraft is currently not on public display, having been installed in to the new AirSpace exhibition. It is hoped that there will be some access to the exhibition in early September.
